Grand Tourism, is the hybrid association of two musicians (Chris Canavaggio and Bob Farrel) and of a sound engineer (Sean Henry).
The first two maxis were released in 1998 and 1999 ( ” La Baie du Fakir ” and “ Sexy Funky), followed by a 6-track mini-album entitled “ A l’écoute de tes courbes ” which defines the bands' structure and direction. The track “ Les Courants d’Air ” which is sung by Terry Callier introduces a new dimension with it's floaty and pop flavour, and is an ideal foretaste of Grand Tourism's debut album "Le Surboomer" scheduled for release in France on February 13th 2001.
In control of the projet is Chris Canavaggio, rock combo guitarist in the 80's, then studio producer. Specialist in the mechanics and historics of music, he picks up influences which range from the Rolling Stones to Roxy Music and Curtis Mayfield in passing. His fearsome and organic guitar playing renders Grand Tourism's musice all the more generous and warm.
Bob Farrel, pop musician and singer in the 80's, composer of “ Duel au soleil ” for Etienne Daho, rapidly devotes himself to studio production. Great traveller, fan of Pink Floyd and Gainsbourg, fervent danser to black music, music collector (with a pronounced taste for American soundtracks from the 70's amongst others), disco-goer & club-culture buff… So many different passions creating gangways between Grand Tourism experimentational & cross-over styles.
Sean Henry, sound-prince who was discovered as an engineer, after a few years prefered to let himself slip into the freer and more creative adventure of electronic music, to work on Grand Tourism's sound dimension, which has become the band's trademark .
"LE SURBOOMER" (AZ-Universal, originaly Atmospherique 2001-2005), an album conceived Paris, over a period of two years, enabled the band to define their Universe, to shape atmospheres and to meet vocalists. Terry Callier, the great but all too unrecognised American folk singer, lends his voice on “ Les Courants d’Air ”. Ken Norris, American pop singer living in Paris, illuminates “ Act of Love ” and “ Time for This ” with all his vocal talent. Angie S. provides a hip-hop contribution with her feline tone & phrasing on “ Romantic Hold Up ”.
"REXICAN" (Fakir Music 2013), a collection of never released songs, thirteen tracks recorded in Paris beetween 2004 and 2012. A mix of lounge blues, ballades and electro pop with the great Tanya Michelle Smith as feminine voices.
